Palmiers are a super easy appetizer to assemble, and they’re impressive to serve too. This three-ingredient-recipe is quite a delicious version. You will only need puff pastry, fig jam and Gruyére cheese! I love simple appetizers that call for few ingredients. Be sure to try my easy stuffed mushrooms and chili cheese dip too.
How to make Fig and Gruyére Palmiers:
Roll out a sheet of puff pastry. Sprinkle it with Gruyére cheese. Roll the pastry into a log. Slice into 1/4-inch slices. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush each slice with fig jam. Bake for 12 minutes. That’s it! This recipe can be easily doubled if you’d like to use up the whole package of puff pastry and/or if you need more appetizers.
Make ahead instructions:
You can make these fig and gruyére palmiers ahead and freeze the uncut, unbaked rolls. Wrap rolls in heavy-duty plastic wrap, and freeze. To serve, let rolls stand at room temperature 10 minutes before slicing. Brush with preserves, and bake as directed.
About fig jam:
Look in gourmet shops or good kitchen supply stores for Fig Jam. Sometimes your regular market will carry it too in a gourmet cheese section or the deli.
How to make Fig Jam:
If you cannot find fig jam, you can use this recipe for making your own: Combine 1 cup dried black Mission figs (stems removed) and 1 teaspoon lemon juice in a food processor; process until figs are coarsely chopped. Place fig mixture, 2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons maple syrup and a dash of salt in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes, or until thick. Cool completely.
